Last week marked an exciting milestone for Bursary Management Solutions Ltd.—I had the pleasure of delivering my very first training session to representatives from one of the largest Multi-Academy Trusts in Leeds. It was a real privilege to share my knowledge and experience with a group so committed to supporting young people across their schools and colleges.
The session focused on the core elements of the 16–19 Bursary Fund, including the latest regulations, effective administration processes, and—most importantly—how to ensure that every eligible student can access the financial support they need to continue their education without unnecessary barriers. With growing pressures on both students and providers, understanding the bursary’s role in removing financial obstacles is more vital than ever.
We explored key areas such as evidence collection, eligibility assessment, audit readiness, and ways to promote the bursary to students and their families. It was heartening to see so much engagement and a shared desire to strengthen support for learners across the Trust.
I’m now looking forward to continuing this work with staff from the Trust’s further education colleges. Future sessions will focus on reviewing current bursary processes, refining administrative systems, and preparing for audit scrutiny. By working collaboratively, we can ensure every establishment operates confidently, compliantly, and with the needs of students at the centre.
It was also a pleasure to hear about the amazing work already underway across the Trust to support their young people. From tailored interventions to practical financial help, it’s clear that there’s a deep commitment to making sure no student is left behind due to financial hardship.
Together, we can ensure that the 16–19 Bursary Fund is not just a policy—but a powerful tool for equity and opportunity.
